Amnesia

Q. Do amnesic people languages they've learnt?
A. No, they don't. Amnesia affects only the conscious part of the brain. Language, motor skills and the like are stored in the unconscious, where amnesia does not target.

Q. Do they forget how to speak?
A. Speech, along with other long learned body functions such as eating, dressing and toiletting, are functions of our very long term memory and usually not affected by amnesia. Retrograde amnesia that occurs after head injuries or brain surgery is loss of memory of recent events, usually between several hours to several months, but occasionally for several years.
